Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a 24-hour non-invasive method of measuring blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) in a natural, out-of-office setting. The patient wears a small monitor connected to a BP cuff on their arm. BP measurements are taken at regular intervals on a typical 24-hour period every 15 to 30 minutes during the day and every 60 minutes at night. The data is then transferred to a computer and analyzed by a healthcare provider. ABPM can help detect abnormal changes in BP that might otherwise go unnoticed.
